gospel of a kingdom
People spend lots of time building and fighting for a kingdom.
To build up what’s rightfully theirs. And that in which their family shall inherit. And that in which ‘rightfully’ belongs to their nation. It’s their kingdom. It’s their way of life.
For some it’s the American Way or the American Dream and for others it’s something else.
The problem is, we haven’t been required, asked, or even encouraged in any way to build a kingdom here.
In fact, it’s quite the opposite.
The only kingdom we need to fight for, strive for, and live for is one that isn’t here.
Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest... But my kingdom is from another place.”
If Jesus had a kingdom here, it’d make sense to fight for our ‘rights,’ to protect them at all costs. But it’s not. It’s somewhere else.
Scary? Not really.
So what does that make us when we no longer have to fight for our rights?
Free.
It makes us free.
Left. Right. Progressive. Conservative.
It’s ok. Because there’s a kingdom that doesn’t reside on either side.
And when that Kingdom is alive on this earth… you’ll find it loving its enemies, giving to the poor, and reflecting hope to the world. That’s a kingdom where Jesus is King.
