freaks of nurture
A whole life’s worth of training for a 60 minute match, a 4 minute routine, or even a 10 second run.
The Olympics are incredible to watch.
One of the more incredible parts is learning the stories behind the athletes.
The trials they’ve overcome. The multiple surgeries and setbacks. And maybe my favorite, that so many of them have to get back home for their 9-5.
The athletes at the Olympics weren’t made that way. They weren’t born the greatest. A flip didn’t switch to make them the best.
It was daily routines of structure and discipline with heavy doses of focus and perseverance with an unremitting consistency.
When it comes to what it takes to be the best, we all carry the seeds of greatness.
“People who make major strides are rarely freaks of natures, they’re freaks of nurture.” – Adam Grant
