a gasp

a gasp

A gasp.  To inhale suddenly out of pain or astonishment.

We often hear of a last gasp.  A last gasp for air, or better yet, for life.

But I’ve found that gasps come far more often than the last breath.

They come daily.  They come in times of stillness when sitting and waiting on one’s heart to speak.  They come in times of panic, when unknowns overwhelm.

A gasp to attempt to understand the questions life has always asked itself.  Why am I here?  What is my purpose?  Who am I?

Is it a mid-gasp for a mid-life crisis?  Or is it simply just… life.

Life’s trials.  Life’s questions.  The life that leaves us … gasping.

A gasp.  To inhale suddenly out of pain or astonishment.

Gasping not just for pain, but for astonishment.

The beauty of the unknowns.  The daily surprises.  A sunrise.  A flower blooming.  An ocean’s tide.

A contemplation of the richness of the questions, Why am I here?  What is my purpose?  Who am I?

Is it a mid-gasp for a mid-life awakening?  Or is it simply just… life.

Life’s bewilderment.  Life’s splendor.  Life’s magnificence.

The life that leaves us … gasping.
