Kindness
It’s easy to confuse kindness with heroism. That it takes a certain type of person to perform a great act of love and care. But really, kindness can come in the everyday, every day.
Malcolm Gladwell shares a story of how a man survived a war because of 11 acts of kindness, not sacrifice, not heroism, but kindness. As Malcolm shares, “Kindness is entry level caring, a temporary suspension of indifference. The Good Samaritan is a story of kindness. He doesn’t fight off a band of hoodlums or sneak an enemy past a check point. He’s kind, not brave.”
Now don’t get me wrong, kindness can be brave. And can be heroic. But it can also be as simple as a hello, a thank you, or simply showing up… and in that, an act of kindness can make all the difference in the world.
