hiding place (Psalm 32:6-7)

hiding place (Psalm 32:6-7)

Trials come.  And the reality is, trials often overcome us.

As much as we desire to be overcomers and conquerors, sometimes, we’re just not.  We fail.  We get overtaken.  We experience loss.

Pain and suffering come to those who least deserve it.  Death comes at the wrong times.  And losses that can never be replaced enter our lives.

While reading in the Psalms, I came across this passage, ‘Surely when the great waters of trial and distressing times overflow, they will not reach the spirit in him.’

There is no denial from the Psalmist of the ability of trials to overflow one’s life.

And yet, in this drowning of one submerged, the water can still not touch one’s spirit.

We can’t explain away tragedy.

But we can hope that when trials come and when waters overwhelm, there is still a spirit inside of us that remains whole, at peace, and contented amongst the chaos and loss.

In the next verse, the Psalmist states, ‘You are my hiding place.’

A beautiful thing to know, when you’re overwhelmed, when you’re drowning in the trials of life, when there’s nowhere to go… there’s still a place to hide.
