gospel of listening

There’s a lot of people that have something to say.  Something to share.  Something to post.

An opinion.  A prediction.  A directive.

There’s a lot of people shouting, holding signs, and making noise.

And while none of these things are wrong in and of themselves, what there often isn’t a lot of, is listening.

In a world of social media and cable outlets, we choose who we hear from and what we listen to.  And that only feeds what we already believe.

But if we truly want to understand someone else and help bring them to a place of our understanding, we are going to need to open up another channel and listen to what someone else has to say.

And when you listen to someone else, oftentimes, the door will be opened for them to listen to you as well.
