gospel of singleness
Com’ on. I’m 34 and single. I know what the people want to read about. When I was 30, I decided to write a blog on being 30 and single. It was a hit. And I enjoyed writing it but then I started dating… and thought I should probably stop. …then I started writing again about more serious things. People didn’t seem to care as much. I get it.
I was talking to my roommate the other day and he mentioned how his buddy had written a book called the 30 Year Old Virgin. I was like, ‘that’s brilliant.’ I should have started writing that at age 18 and updated it every year until who knows when. The people would love it.
There’s something so attractively appealing in the Christian culture to what’s really happening in a single Christian’s life… Even though the Bible thinks we're awesome and speaks very highly of us... the church has no idea what to do with us.
One of my favorite things about being in my 30’s and single is that we have a pretty special and unique tribe. No one gets us. People try. Marrieds continue to cheer us on by sending facebook links of how to fix our singleness. And our own single friends set us up… only with those they don’t want to date. It’s an amazing world.
I don’t think I’ll be single forever. But in case I am, I guess I’ll have a lot of books to read and words to write. And that’s good news.
Goodnight Me.
